Air recuperation in Prague: local and central ventilation for flats and houses
Damp windows, mould in the corners, stale air in the morning or street noise when you want to ventilate, controlled ventilation with heat recovery solves all of this. We will design a solution for your flat or house in Prague and the surrounding area, install it and take care of servicing.
Recovery ventilation does not provide heating. You still control the room temperature with your heating system or air conditioner as before. What it adds is air exchange without opening windows and without letting the room's heat escape outside with the stale air each time.
You'll know it by...
Most flats and houses in Prague are now built or renovated with an emphasis on airtightness, new windows and insulation save heat but also stop the natural air exchange that the house previously relied on through leaks in the façade. The result is evident in several typical symptoms:
- Are your windows fogging up from the inside, especially in winter and overnight?
- Mould appears in room corners or behind furniture.
- In the morning, the air in the bedroom is stale and heavy.
- You want to ventilate, but an open window means street noise or dust.
- Do allergies or daytime fatigue that disappears by evening bother you?
Individually it may seem like a minor detail, but together they point to one cause. There is not enough fresh air circulating in the flat or house.
What a heat recovery system does
Controlled ventilation with heat recovery is a system that continuously exchanges air in your flat or house for you, without open windows, without draughts and without having to let the room's heat escape outside every time. Simply put, it does two things at once: air exchange and saving the heat that would otherwise be lost with the old air.
Ventilates while retaining heat
The system continuously exchanges air in the rooms and recovers heat from the outgoing air via a heat exchanger to warm the incoming air. The efficiency of heat recovery in modern units typically ranges between 75-90 %.
Filters the supplied air
The air entering the unit passes through a filter, which traps dust and pollen. This is particularly appreciated by allergy sufferers and households located on busy streets.
Handles humidity and CO₂ levels
Continuous air exchange keeps humidity and CO₂ levels within reasonable limits without you having to monitor when and for how long to open the window.
Bats
Recovery is not a substitute for heating or air conditioning. The heat you save on ventilation thanks to it is a side effect, its main function is air exchange.
Solutions for flats versus houses
Flat: decentralised units
Wall-mounted units, no need to install ductwork. A solution for both panel and brick flats, even where piping cannot be routed through the layout.
Recovery for flats →Detached house: central system
One central unit with pipework distribution to all rooms. A solution for new builds and renovations where there is space to run the pipework.
Recovery for a detached house →How It Works
1
Request for quotation
Tell us where you live and what issue you are facing: humidity, mould, stale air or street noise.
2
Free survey
We will visit the site, inspect the premises and discuss which solution makes sense.
3
Design and quotation
We will prepare a specific proposal for the units and, where necessary, the distribution system, along with a tailored quotation.
4
Installation and training
We will install and commission the system, demonstrate how to operate it and maintain the filters.
After installation, system maintenance is limited mainly to regular filter replacement and occasional unit inspection. We cover this on the page. Servis a filtry.
Prague and surrounding areas
We operate throughout Prague, Prague 1, Prague 2, Prague 3, Prague 4, Prague 5, Prague 6, Prague 7, Prague 8, Prague 9 and Prague 10, as well as in surrounding municipalities where people commute to Prague for work or housing (Beroun, Kladno, Říčany, Brandýs nad Labem, Černošice and others). We will discuss the exact location of your construction project or residence when you submit your enquiry.
In densely built-up parts of the city where outdoor air is often burdened by traffic, filtering the supplied air is even more important than on the outskirts or outside the city. This is also one of the reasons we frequently receive requests from central Prague.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a PBX differ from an air conditioner or a heat pump?
Rekuperace ventilates. It exchanges exhaled air for fresh air while recovering heat from the outgoing air. It does not cool or heat a room like an air conditioner or a heat pump. It addresses humidity, CO₂ and air quality, not the room temperature.
Do I need to keep windows open because of the heat recovery system?
No, that is precisely the point of the system. Controlled ventilation exchanges air continuously and automatically, so windows remain closed and you do not need to decide when or how long to ventilate manually.
Can you hear the unit when it is running?
A well-designed and correctly positioned system operates quietly during normal use. Noise levels depend on the unit's capacity, speed setting, and how the air ducting is arranged, all of which are addressed during the design phase.
Is heat recovery ventilation suitable for older flats or houses?
Yes. Decentralised units are typically installed in flats in both panel and brick buildings without the need for ductwork. For detached houses, it depends on whether it is a new build, renovation or retrofit installation. We will discuss this during the survey.
How much does a PBX cost?
The price varies depending on whether it is for decentralised units in an apartment or a central system with distribution throughout the house, and according to the scope of work. An indicative range and what makes up the price can be found on the Price page. We will provide an exact amount after a free survey.
Can state support be obtained for a PBX?
The New Green Savings programme supports controlled ventilation with heat recovery. Current conditions are described on the Subsidies page; we will assist with the application documentation.
